i think ftms have enough presence of mind to know they will never be able to progress beyond the "teenage boy" stage of male passing, so they stop trying after they get soft boy aesthetics, they want what they "perceive" to be the societal "benefits" of being male while not really leaving any of the aesthetics behind, it's really bizarre.

My niece is ftm and she has a weird fixation with growing body hair and being "all natural". Which is just a fancy way of saying not showering very often and not shaving her armpits. I think ftms want to purposly look sexually unappealing when compared to conventional female beauty standards. I think they hate the idea of being objectified by the male gaze and want to rebel against it out of spite. Hence the piercings, tatoos, swearing and even the casual abrasive attitude. My niece is a nice person but she swears all the time and just casually insults people thinking it's cool or edgy. She calls me a "dumbass" and sometimes tells me to "shut the fuck up" but in a way that isn't meant to be malicious but instead kinda playful. I think it's weird how ftms aren't actually trying to act like "men" but instead a weird inverse parody of women.
