nvm im profoundly retarded, ammonium nitrate was actually used by McVeigh, not HMTD. i cant find any papers explaining why he used that but i assume his heart was in the right place while making this decision, i would've assumed that it was because of shock sensitivity but afaik not even the gov took that into consideration at the time of the bombing
