mhm, i talked about it with my dad earlier today since he's catholic. apparently pope francis changed a lot of things which will make it more likely that the next pope will also be less conservative. that's good i think

Watching Conclave has made me ingest this normally boring news differently. Now I can't help but think of the ancient social machinery at work as we speak~ 
The Vatican is still so much like the Monarchies that used to be it's contemporaries.

i think it's cool how old a lot of the actions of the vatican feel; they seem crushed under the weight of tradition. i was raised catholic but even after losing my faith as a teenager i still appreciated the stained glass windows and opaque rituals of the church from an aesthetic perspective. i hope the next pope is someone dedicated to social justice, it would be cool to have an actual liberation theology pope. i think liberation theology makes the best sense of the teachings of jesus in the context of the 21st century. reading some of the liberation theology bishops from the 20th century, it felt like they were quoting the prophetic critique in matthew 23 at all of the unjust systems around them

The Pope simply needs to be woke to stay connected to all the current population of the faithful. All the pre-Vatican 2 grognards have already left the mainline congregations. Your average Catholic is just really woke now, especially compared to WASPs.

the pope has the title of pontifex maximus, a position in rome which must be worshipped as a god. that's literal blasphemy, no human has the right to divine authority. that's a title emperor julius caesar used to have, and under his reign, Jesus Christ was crucified. no matter who becomes pope, they're still going to be on some bullshit.
