i wish I was better at drawing, ive been making sketches everyday for the past 4 years and i havent improved a single bit. I always end up exiting out of my art program, or if it's on paper, I just scribble over it

Nigga, just move on to another form of artistic expression. DNA tests can literally tell how good or bad you are at distinguishing musical notes from one another from golden ears to tone deaf. You probably suck at whatever the drawing equivalent is of that.

art isn't just about sketching, the same way as fighting isn't just about punching.
you gotta research stuff like perspective, anatomy, expressions, colors, composition, you get the picture...
go read books if can (you can find lots of those books for free at archive.org), watch youtube videos about art history if you want, it's really important not to stick to one thing like most amateur artist do. shit, even mangakas study classic western art for reference
but if you've already done all of this for 4 years and can't seen to improve there's something really wrong

Nice disinfo post lole
>art isn't just about sketching
It is tho
If you read any of the books by anyone that actually can draw or any pixiv advice by actual artists or anything in an omake by an artist that can actually draw or etc. what you're supposed to do to improve is the same thing that it has always been, just draw something good that someone else has drawn until you can draw that kind of thing well

constructionism isn't even midwit cope. It's a literal lobotomite conspiracy by people who can't visualize an apple, unironically. There's a reason these 'people' (western """""artists""""" etc.) feel threatened by AI, and it's not because they can draw.

Tracing is all nice and good until you're left with artists that can only draw certain poses and body types, ok maybe that isn't a problem at all, drawing cute girlers is peak

anone listen closely
if you ask for advice in places like this, you are going to get mislead
being good at drawing is not in your DNA, but also I don't believe you can learn it from a book
you have to draw!

The unflattering truth that you don't want to hear is that the only way you can get better at drawing is by drawing. Yes, this means you will draw ugly things, yes this means you have to invest time and effort into something that will feel unrewarding, but it really is the only way!

Have you noticed on the internet or in magazines or on gossip shows there's always talk about new diets or super-foods that are miracle shortcuts to getting skinny? But they're all stupid gimmicks! The way you get skinny is by eating less calories than you burn over a long period of time. People so badly want to believe that there are shortcuts to their goals. That there's a cool new diet that will make them skinny, or a cool drawing book that will make them a great artist... It's all comforting lies.

Have you ever heard the phrase "art is suffering"? You must suffer the humiliation and self-hatred that comes with drawing 100 ugly and cringe things, you must force yourself to look at your ugly cringe drawings and understand why they are bad, and you will improve! Do not try to measure your success against other people! If you want to appreciate your improvement, you can look at your own art and see how it's getting better over time! I have been drawing for almost 7 years now and uploading to pixiv. My first drawings are so ugly they would probably make you sick! I am so sorry that I have put such ugly images into the world. But I still have not deleted them, do you know why? It shows how far I have come! Because now I draw things that people love! I didn't use books! I didn't listen to people in places like /ic/ who only want to drag you down!

Do you hear me anon! Put down the book and stop reading bad advise from others! JUST DRRAAAWWWW DRAW WHAT YOU LOVE LET YOUR LOVE FUEL YOU AANNNOOOOOOONN LISTEN TO MEEEEEE LISTEN LISTENAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

i didn't say it's just about reading what i meant is that sketching like a dumbass for hours on end without even understanding how basic anatomy works won't lead you anywhere, you gotta do the study too!

>until you're left with artists that can only draw certain poses and body types
This is a symptom of not tracing tho.
If by "certain poses and body types" you mean "every pose and body type anyone has ever put to paper, plus every one they can derive therefrom", then sure.

>>47107
>i didn't say it's just about reading
I never said you did
>what i meant is that sketching like a dumbass for hours on end
You're saying 'sketching' but you don't understand what that means. Original designs, yes, that's only an important minority of practice. But it's very clear you don't understand what you're talking about and have no idea what you're even saying
>without even understanding how basic anatomy works
There is no "understanding how basic anatomy works" in learning to draw. You never ever need any anatomical knowledge at all. If something looks better with bad anatomy, if it conveys the meaning better, then it should have bad anatomy - not that it even means anything to say that a thing has bad anatomy, because drawings don't have anatomy.

You're a retard. You don't even understand that you don't understand.

You need to start drafting in guidelines so the portraits don't look like the features are all sliding around
Also showing a clear lack of practice drawing arms
>Am I GMI
No cos you obviously don't practice. You probably could make it but I don't think that you care to

shit isn't instantly gratifying, there are a lot of growing pains you must learn to overcome. creative expression is important though, we need an outlet regardless for all of our emotional energy inside of us. just don't take shit so personally, and do it most importantly for yourself, not the validation of others.
