computer programming was secreterial work in the 1960s, it's always been womens work, even after men flooded the field, office work is pretty feminine in general, no matter what you're dping

Nobody is writing anything in rust that ever actually reaches production though, it's strictly tech company bloat
I guess that's also secretarial work

linux has rust in it tho

Linux has support for rust, it doesn't have rust in it.
linux/rust is support for you to write modules in rust but there aren't (and probably never will be) any parts of the actual kernel that are in rust and aren't (and probably never will be) any in-tree modules in rust. It's literally just there because some drivers were written in rust as a proof of concept.
N.B. linux/rust is 100% C (plus a makefile)

How to code? Where to start?

there's no point anymore, AI is doing it all now

Sure, but I still find it an interesting thing at the outset. I'd like to learn it, I want to learn things, and I think it's kind of bad and dangerous for the knowledge of such things to be lost because they are replaced by AI.

yeah okay might as well learn how to use an abacus or a slide rule you luddite

Any Tech Uni you go to to learn coding will teach you in C, or some variation of C. C sucks, but it's the language that is small enough to be put on Microcontrollers, so we still use it. C is a decent place to start without any coding knowledge beforehand. Hell, playing around with a Microcontroller is also a decent place to start as well.

Thanks. Is it possible to learn without going to a tech university, or would it be best to do so?

It perfectly possible to learn coding without going to Uni, it's just a lot harder to do so on your own. Or, at least, I find it a lot harder. But I always sucked at coding. Mathematics was the thing I got good at at Uni.

There are no straight rust programmers just like how there are no straight furries.
